I need a "Well, you think that was bad, let me tell you...."

Yesterday, my stomach sunk.

Fast and hard.

Right at the same moment my sweet baby fell backwards and landed the back of his head on a hard tile floor.

He was playing and having fun on the carpet section.  Twisting, scooting, rocking, crawling, sitting.  He had moved himself over far enough that when he pushed himself up to sit, he was on the edge of the carpet.  All four adults in the room were watching him, laughing with him.  Realizing how close he was to the tile, a couple of us thought out aloud that we should move him.

I got up to that.

And watched him fall as I walked...then ran...over there.

He cried and cried and cried.

We fretted and debated and looked for signs of trouble.

Although still sad, he nursed and took a short nap which was about due.

But you know that nap about killed me.  My head was spinning with what-ifs.

Later on, he ate some more.

For the rest of the evening, he played and talked and played and laughed.

We felt like everything was ok.

But you know that button in your head that gets stuck sometimes.  The rewind button.  It keeps pushing itself and my mind keeps seeing it all happen again.

I don't like that button.

I know things happen.  I know we will have more bumps and bruises to come.  It is just hard watching something happen that your baby has no control to stop or manage.

B is has not woken up yet this morning (which is normal), so of course I will be checking him over again when he does.  Checking for those signs.

Please make me feel better and tell me one of your stories and how everything turned out perfectly ok.

That and my cup of coffee should help this morning.

I can totally understand how you felt as you watched this happen, and as you nervously spent your night checking for indicators of a problem, and worrying through the naps and sleep. I would be too. And as I read this post I actually began to cry, feeling your pain as you retold the event. I'll be praying for B.

I've been there. It is so rough to have to wait and see. I've heard to always check for signs like uneven pupils, vomiting, or loss of consciousness. Babies are much tougher than we give them credit for. Try not to beat yourself up too much. Bear fell off the bed at 8 months and bumped his head on the nightstand and then fell off the recliner head first onto the tile a few months later. Plus last Christmas when he pulled the heavy stocking hanger down on his head from the mantle. I promise I was only a few feet from him each time this happened but kids are just fast. I think it hurts us more than them because we remember it long after they have forgotten it.

Aww, I know how awful that feels. Both my kids had pretty bad head bumps at around the same age and it's scary. Someone (not me, but another parent who will remain un-named) left our daughter on the couch while finding the camera. Of course, before he got back with it, she had fallen off, hitting her head on the corner of the coffee table on the way. Then with Daniel, I was hurrying across the church courtyard one morning when my heel caught in a broken chunk of concrete. I went down face-first, only with my infant son in my arms and he hit the back of his head right on the concrete. Awful!!

Praying that he's fine and that you'll be comforted and reassured. ((Hugs!!))

When Gillian was first crawling, I hadn't finished baby proofing everything in the house, but I figured I had time because she wasn't that fast yet...
And then I found her in the cabinet under my bathroom sink, happily chewing on the nasty toothbrush that I use to clean around the edges of the toilet.

How's that? Bad enough for you? :)

Oh no! Poor little fella. He was so lucky to have his momma there to give him extra snuggles.

C got his first goose egg just last weekend. We were visiting the great grands and great granddad was in the kitchen watching C while he was crawling through the house. Next thing I know I hear screaming crying coming from the kitchen. Little guy somehow lost his footing (or handing since he was crawling) and bumped his noggin right on the hard tile. :( Great granddad felt horrible of course. It didn't help that a welt immediately emerged from my beautiful baby's forehead. Fortunately the next day there was no evidence of that nasty bump.

Hugs to you!
