Anysa's year in pictures

I am back. But not really.

My brain is tired and I feel uninspired to say anything.

Shocking, I know!

So, I have decided the next 3 posts will just be pictures with captions. It is actually more tedious to put together. But it is also rather mindless as a task in general.

And who doesn't love pictures!

I will start with Anysa and follow with Luke then the last day will be pictures of them together or our family. I know the pictures you will see separately are actually related events (you will see what I mean later), but I thought it would be more fun to give each of them their own billing.

Enjoy!
Stacey

I think Anysa was watching way too much Barbie princess movies. The black tap shoes and her "Yes, my lady" with accent are a dead giveaway!

Or I just wanted evidence that I really do run a tight ship around here!

It took some serious begging and pleading on my part to get Anysa to wear this cute outfit including the GINORMOUS orange bow. I loved this dress turned long shirt and she had to wear the bow. I was determined!

Pumpkin Patch Day

Post-Halloween dress-up

My Japanese Princess!

These are some pictures from our family picture day thanks to a good friend who took pictures for us. Next year, we are going to try for an overcast day, but we still got a lot of great pics for our Christmas card and my walls!

Anysa and her best friend/cousin Hannah! Let's hope they continue to "pretend" being pregnant for MANY years to come!

Cowgirl Anysa

Feeding the horses at a train birthday party.

Little Gym Graduation! She did so awesome and I think can be a true gymnast someday. We will go back to dance in the fall. We like to switch back and forth until she gets older.

Summer fun in 2007!

I PROMISE this really happened! She was having her grown-up conversation with her Gigi and when I went to find her I found THIS! I am SO.NOT.READY for this! She is all into phone conversations using very grown up social sentences.

Available for only $99.99 (sorry, no wooden leg.)

Thanks everyone for thinking of Curtis.

He stopped taking the anti-viral because it was making him feel really sick, despite eating with the meds. He went for his regular annual check-up on Thursday and his doctor put him on a steroid (which is actually standard with BP, so we are not sure why the ER doc didn't do so on Tuesday.) to hopefully decrease inflammation.

Although, it has worsened a bit since Tuesday, his speech is still good.

I included some new pics below. And yes, I am making him do tricks to emphasize what it looks like. Without doing tricks, it is noticeable, but not as much as in the pictures.

Attempting to close eyes

Raising his eyebrows (or eyebrow!)

Smiling

The last one is my personal favorite because it really defines what is happening with the nerves.

And I can use to let everyone know that he is available for your children's pirate parties.

For a nominal fee.

We have doctor bills to pay!

For whom the Bell's toll

Or, as our mothers always said,

"Always wear good (and clean) underwear everyday. You never know when someone will see it."

As we know, men don't really do sick well. So after awhile, women really start to lose compassion when a runny nose equates laying on the couch for days watching as much sports or natural disasters as possible.

He had a relatively miserable cold for about 4 days starting last Tuesday. Medicine wasn't really touching it, even the symptoms it does usually make feel better. I, of course, suggested going to the doctor as he might now have a sinus infection.

I seem to remember scoffing at the suggestion.

The other problem with my suggestion is my colds usually do amount to sinus infections. He never believes me, but the doctor always confirms them for me. I don't enjoy taking antibiotics. I took a ton of them as a kid and it is a wonder they work on me now. Precisely, one of the reasons I started doing the Nettie pot as suggested by Dr. Oz on Oprah. I get to see the show maybe once every 2 weeks and was lucky to catch Dr. Oz one day.

Anyway.

About 3 days ago, he was complaining about his eyes being funny and there being a weird numbness across his face. Symptoms which I have had whenever I have a bad sinus infection. So, I suggested the Nettie pot and again, go to the doctor.

On Monday night, he came home late after dinner with a friend. We were just getting home from VBS. With a huge load of groceries. And our 13 yr old baby-sitter who was spending the night. To say chaos control preceded personal needs is an understatement.

Anyway.

He mentioned that something weird was going on. His eye was really bothering him. His lips felt numb. And he could hardly chew his food.

I am sure this meat, potatoes, and ice cream man was thinking stroke.

He did have a very slight droop of his right eyelid if you looked hard. But the most noticeable thing was that he could not pucker the right side of his mouth.

At this point, I know you are thinking, "GO TO THE ER!"

He had already made an appt. with his regular doctor for Thursday to investigate and go ahead with his annual check up. And his symptoms were not pronounced enough for extreme worry. And believe me, he would not have sacrificed his sleep to go to the ER at 9:30 pm. He did mention the words "Bell's Palsy" and I knew there was a possibility, but instead he did the Nettie pot and went to bed.

At work yesterday, around 2:30, my office manager brought me my cell phone and said you need to call Curtis.

He actually felt the need to go to the ER and I needed to go get him because he had carpooled that day. So, I headed to go get him while simultaneously cancelling swim lessons and arranging for the kids with P.

We arrived at an ER close to home around 3:30 pm. Intake was quick and we got to a room quick. Here is where you need to keep in mind why good and clean underwear is indeed important at all times!

The nurses were great. Of course, they took blood, got one arm ready in case an IV was needed, and hooked up the EKG. And ordered an MRI and CT scan if needed after the doctor saw him. In these cases, they usually want to rule out a stroke or tumor.

Pretty quickly, the doctor felt like it was a classic case of Bell's Palsy but wanted to do the CT scan to rule out anything. Blood work and MRI were cancelled. And it was obvious just by looking at him at this point. The pictures from my cell phone don't really do it justice. I need to take some of the eyebrow raising and smiling once my phone recharges.

You can see the flatter right side with the lopsided mouth.

His right eye is wider because it won't blink or close without a lot of effort.

After the CT was normal, Dr. Z discussed it some more with us. It could take 2 days or 2 months to return to normal. Eye injury and eye dryness are the biggest concerns at this point. It could get worse before it gets better. He will have to use eye drops and tape his eye shut at night. He will also take a round of anti-viral medication because it has been found to minimize symptoms and reduce healing time in a strong number of studies with people. While they don't really really know the cause, the strongest case seems to be viral related.

I included a link to a great kids' website (www.kidshealth.org)that has a really nice explanation of Bell's Palsy. It is written for kids but I think it does a nice job in simple terms. An interesting thing, increased sensitivity to loud noises can occur because one of the inner ear bones that dampens loud noises and protects our ears for us is affected by the temporary nerve damage. By the way, this is peripheral nerve damage, not central nerve damage as with a stroke.

We left the ER around 7 pm which I think was pretty good. It was a relatively painless experience. If you discount the needles, bandage tape, and ripping electrodes (and chest hair) off.

No restrictions, other than taking precaution with his eye.

And before you start feeling too sorry for him and have no sympathy for me.

His biggest concerns?

That no other body parts are affected and how he would effectively consume beer while fishing at the lake with his buddies this weekend.

Priorities people!

All that sparkles

I enjoy the idea of the 4th of July. Celebrating our country, friends, family, food, fireworks. The Firecracker Fairy! I have always loved watching fireworks.

However, it seems over the last few years, this particular holiday has fizzled for us. We usually end up making last minute plans (if any at all) and it typically gets treated like any other day except we all happen to be home on the same day.

I have made sure the Firecracker Fairy knows where to find us each year, but other than that, it has become rather depressing for me. I mean, we haven't even had matching shirts for the last 3 years! A shame, I know, because you really can't have enough Old Navy July 4th t-shirts in your closet!

The Firecracker Fairy knew just what to leave on our doorstep. Each of the kids received a (cheap) movie and swim goggles. Anysa got those cute stretchy shirts with straps which I heard rumored to have been found at a local retailers for a mere $1 each! Luke discovered pjs in his sack.

This year, we did manage to all wear appropriate colors for the day. Once we eventually left the house!

We were finally forced out by all the rats!

EVERY.SINGLE.TIME Anysa sees portions of the new movie "Ratatouille" on tv, she roars with laughter and begs that they get to go see it. I accidentally mumbled something like "ok" the other day and I was stuck. It did look like it would be cute though.

We headed to a theater close by only to discover it was already sold out. So, we headed to the megaplex theater where they really do try to squeeze every last dime from your pocket. I mean, seriously, $9 for an adult to go see a movie BEFORE.6.P.M.! The kids were $6 each. My adoration for Netflix went up an extra notch after that. And Anysa gave it her best shot at begging for popcorn, but settled for sharing a drink between her, Luke, and Daddy.

It really was a cute G-rated movie. However, it would take a few more viewings before the kids actually caught the whole theme of the movie. And there was the cussing.

Shut-up and stupid. Ouch!

We came home for pizza before staking our place in a Wal-Mart parking lot for what I would describe as a weak fireworks show.

Addison and Lewisville are still among my favorites in our area!

Luke's first corn-shucking experience!

Anysa shucking her ear clean!

The only time Anysa's mouth would touch an ear of corn that day!

I had to stop Luke before he cleaned the cob!

Strictly posing!

Her cute shirts came in the white, an orange, and a yellow!

I hope your 4th s*p*a*r*k*l*e*d!

Stacey

p.s. Anysa got about 4 inches of hair cut off 2 days later! It is so cute. Especially since she said that she loves that her hair looks like mine now! I would have totally taken a few more inches off but there is someone in our house who equates long hair with womanhood.

A shout out to my Terrific Ten!! (or maybe just nine)

Thanks to each of you that took a little extra time and joined me for a fun adventure. Not only did I get to meet several new friends, but I also got reminded why my "old" friends are so dear to me!

I will go ahead and get this negative part out of the way. I would be totally being dishonest if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that more people did not join our fun. I dream big, what can I say! But that being said, I think instead of being disappointed, I will remember that really I just got the cream that rises to the top!

I also have to admit that I was a little nervous when my first comment came from a young lady whose blog consists of, well, things we won't discuss here! Thank goodness Jennifer came along behind her quickly to relieve my anxiety!

Isn't Jennifer amazing by dealing with toddler, new baby, and graduate work!

And Danette, well she is not only smart but so darn cute as well! Can we still call each other cute at our age?! I remember our days of studying in our cube at the library...me with my anatomy, her with her finances. Oh, and let us not forget all our fun hanging out at the "functions"!! I love that she has gone from the White House to Toddler House! But know this, she could jab with the big boys anytime she wants!

I loved "meeting" Barbara H. She is obviously a good woman, what with liking Mexican food AND chocolate! And she dated a mannequin boy-how funny!

Shannon is my running hero! I have been such a slacker, but she inspires me! And she continues to prove how darn funny she is!

I also "met" Sista Cala who has a beautiful blog site everyone should visit. It is so inspirational! And she made me so hungry for corn on the cob that I went right out and bought 10 ears!

Kimmy is my new Canadian friend! I can't wait to take a trip to Canada some day! And CONGRATULATIONS to her! She is officially the farthest from me, so she will get a goody from my stash!

Jenna is actually a new local friend with 4 handsome boys! I love that she helps people with part of the adoption process. If she will ever stop traveling this summer, maybe we can actually get the kids together and really have time to talk! ;)

Golda-thank you for moving so close to me! I love being able to let the kids play together and that I can get me some baby love whenever I want from the little ones! You make me laugh! Um, and I haven't seen no yummy ice cream cakes from you!! When I was 4, I had a Raggedy Ann ice cream cake!!

Rachel is another dear friend from OBU that was one of my partners in crime along with Danette and Leslie! We wouldn't need a tummy tuck if all we would do is get together and tell a bunch of stories from college. Ours tummies would be RIPPED!!

And I think Rachel summed it up best.

It truly is by the grace of God that I found each of you!

I am grateful!

I leave you with God's other beauties! I took these while driving (I know, I know!) last week because they were such an amazing testimony to His promise that still applies today!

Sew tired of the silence

I can't stand it anymore! It was all I could do not to write for A.WHOLE.WEEK! But don't worry, I have been keeping a list of all the things I have wanted to talk about ALL.WEEK!

Tomorrow, I will do my round-up and shout out in regards to my last post.

For today, in honor of being back, I thought I would just provide some of what everyone always loves when they open up someone's post.

PICTURES!

These pictures are of my recent sewing project I just completed for my friend Golda. These are accent pillows and blankets for her twins room. Since I am the first to admit that I am an imperfect seamstress, I hope you won't take this as bragging. I actually forgot how much I enjoy sewing; the fabric, the creativity, the finished project. It is just much more stressful these days with little hands that want to help me or go help themselves to my sewing tools when I am not looking. My dream, of course, is to one day have a room for projects that need to be left out-sewing, scrapbooks, etc.

I was a total home economics geek in jr. high and high school. Yes, I took it twice. I wish I had kept my first dress I sewed. Maybe I did, but just don't remember where it is! After that, I never sewed again until I got pregnant with Anysa. I just knew that I wanted to sew her bedding. Big dreams for a gal that did not even have her own sewing machine up to that point! I was inspired by my professional boss who also happens to have the same "Martha Stewart Wanna Be" genes that I possess and who is a very talented seamstress! She gently guided me through the process and the results were good. We did Anysa's crib bedding, curtains, and pillows.

Over the next couple of years, I even did a few fun dresses for Anysa and Christmas pillows one year for all the family. Of course once pregnant again, I was determined to provide no less for Luke than Anysa received. Store-bought bedding-Never! Just another reason for him to guilt me later on in years! Well, he got his bedding, curtains (my first roman shade!), and pillows as well.

Later on, I tried my hand at mass sewing by getting ready for a craft show. I did bibs, burp cloths, hooded towels with matching washcloths, bath aprons, etc. It was fun and I finally sold or gave away all of it.

It has been 3 LONG years since starting a significant sewing project, so I have to admit I was a little nervous. Oh wait, I did sew baby blankets as gifts along the way, as well as Jen's "cootie cover"-that was fun!

Anyway, I hate to make the first cut in the fabric, but I did it and the results are below!

Come out, come out, where ever you are!

"Hi, my name is Stacey and I am a lurker."

I admit it.

It all stems from being nosey, or interested however you choose to think about it, about other people and their lives. I have been doing it for as long as I can remember; anywhere in public or on television. I still have to stop for a few minutes if I am ever channel surfing and come across a "Real World" episode or an "E True Hollywood Story". Don't you? I even watched a little "Laguna Beach" a few times, but it was seriously painful to listen to them talk (especially the opposite sex conversations) and I would almost have heart failure wanting to reach through the screen and save them from the embarrassment.

But just so you will not abandon me here, I want you to know that I have moved on.

As far as television, I have moved on to more adult-like nosiness such as "Little People, Big World" and "John and Kate plus 8". I don't watch all that other stuff anymore.

OK, maybe a little.

As far as public lurking, well, it can't be beat!

Now, blog lurking, that is my new thing.

First I did it just to read about people I didn't know. Because of course, they care! Then I did it to see how this whole blog thing worked. I never left comments and now I only leave comments occasionally.

But now, I understand the power of comments. It is just fun when you get them and sometimes good for the soul! Or, I am just jealous that I can talk about something with no comments and then a week later a more famous blogger can talk about the same thing and get 37 comments.

Now, I know more people stop by then leave comments. About a month ago, I installed a counter. I don't really care about the numbers. I am more interested in who and from where. Of course! It allows me to see where people are from and how they got to my blog. I don't necessarily know who they all are.

I have my regulars, some that comment and most that don't. But I have had visitors from all over the country and the world as well. UK, Romania, Germany, China, Illinois, Arizona, Tennessee, California, just to name a few! That is exciting! I know some probably got here by accident after googling a word that linked them to me, but I am hoping most are actual readers.

Which leads me to this thought. I REALLY want to know who you are. At least once because you might not ever stop by again. I know it can be a pain, especially if you are just doing some quick surfing around blogsville. And maybe, you really don't have anything to say about my particular post you land on.

So, here is the deal.

I am going to leave this post at the top for a whole week. I know, I know. Some of you are saying, "how boring". But really, this will be fun. I will leave my comments open (as long as they stay clean) for everyone to read. You might find some new visitors yourself by visiting them off my comment section. And of course, you don't have to have a blog to leave a comment.

I would love EVERY visitor to comment at least once and let me know:

* Who you are
* Where you are from
* How you found me
* Your favorite food
* A fun fact about you

I will personally thank each of you and then let everyone else know the results in a later post. Please pass along this post/blog site to everyone you know because I would LOVE to see if I can get all 50 states and as many other countries as possible.

And just to add to the excitement, I will give a SURPRISE to the person who comments and is the farthest distance from my location here is Texas!

Thanks for indulging me! I can't wait to meet everyone!!

Stacey
